Three CVM/IAS Library staff, Adelina Esperante, Magdalena Bede, and Lucila Andal, participated in the UPLB Library Benchmarking to the Main Libraries of U.P. Baguio and Benguet State University on July 27-28, 2018. This university library activity aimed of improving internal efficiency, streamlining work processes and establishing library partnerships.
Some of the best practices of U.P. Baguio Main library, headed by Ms. Julieta S. Dela Peña are the one stop borrowing/ returning counter which are very efficient and convenient to both clients and librarians. Another practice is the transfer/merging of unused reserve books to the circulation books, which according to Ms. Dela Peña has raised the usage of these transferred reserve books and made her concluded that the overnight policy and fines hindered students in borrowing reserve books.
The BSU Main library, headed by Mr. Lauren Kipaan, now has a very attractive, cool and enabling physical arrangement and facilities, eye capture interior designs, very well paint color combinations, and furniture designs. Engaging, exposing, and fitting the library interiors, facilities and services in today’s millennial era are their main target to invite more students to come to the library. Furthermore, Mr. Kipaan, emphasized that their nine library staff are multitasking and have flexible workload to maximize the time rendered with a good quality service. The library adopted technological innovation in partnership with the DOST. Open communication to other possible donors was one of their strategies to acquire funding for the development of the library. (MDBede)
